Lent 2005 - 40 Days of Purpose - Mission

We were made for Mission. The church, in the form of its members, is involved in many areas of our community, town, country and world. We have a missionary committee which seeks to keep us focused outwards.
We raise money for various causes at different times such as for:
  • Educacion Plus, working with children in Costa Rica
  • Tsunami Relief through BMS World Vision
  • The Filling Station, working with the homeless in Swindon
  • 'Operation Christmas Child' (Christmas 2005)
We feel very much a part of our local community and several of us are active in the local community association, which seeks to serve the local community.
For a number of years we have been involved in outreach in Romania through Reach Romania and several people from the church have been out there to help in various projects, including teaching, running clinics, visting orphanages and working with ladies groups.
The church supports the Willows Christian Counselling Service and several members are actively involved. This charity provides counselling services and has trained many counsellers.
The church has many links with local schools - we used to meet in one of the local schools for the first 7 years of the churches life. Children from the church go to local schools, parents have been involved in helping in schools and on the governing bodies. There is a prayer group that regularly prays for all the local schools in our area and across the Old Town part of Swindon.
? The Y Crew is an after school club that has been running in the local junior/primary school for a number of years, and has recently been rolled out to other local primary schools with involvement from other churches in Old Town.
SYFC (Swindon Youth for Christ) seek to reach out to young people across Swindon. The church regularly supports the work of SYFC and people from the church are involved in the work as volunteer youth workers and in providing administrative help.
The Thursday Fellowship is a group for adults with learning disabilities run by the churches from the Old Town Partnership of Churches. It meets on Thursdays for worship, prayer, sharing and stories.
