Easter Meditation - seven sayings from the cross

Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing

Luke 23:34

This prayer was probably uttered many times.

At each indignity Jesus said,

"Father forgive them ..."

Today we can crucify Christ in many ways,

when we live for self,
when we refuse to forgive,
when we see a need and pass by on the other side.

In the light of God's forgiveness we must forgive, for it is only as we forgive others that we are forgiven.

George Herbert says:

"He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass if he would ever reach heaven; for everyone has need to be forgiven".
